Storytelling Festival

We had such a great time on our field trip to the Storytelling Festival and Hope Park.  The students loved listening to all the different storytellers.  Some were students and others were adults.  They told stories through music and through dramatic interpretation. The students also loved going to Hope Park with their classmates.  The weather was just PERFECT for a picnic lunch and some play time on the playground.  Below are some of the pictures from our trip.  Be sure to ask your kids about it!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Teachers can have fun at the park too!!

College Week

Last week, we had such a great time as we geared up and started getting excited about colleges (and any higher education).  The students loved getting to dress up each day.  I was able to capture most days.  (I was out on Friday which is why you won't see any hats in the pictures.)  We also had Mrs. Eastham, our school's counselor, come and share with our class about making goals for ourselves.  The students learned how important it is to set personal goals and ways to stick to them.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Library Research

Since this is Freedom Week, the students had the opportunity today to complete some research in the library on the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.  The students were exposed to a plethora of resources (encyclopedias, books, videos, and articles) in order to help them complete their research.  They each answered some important questions about their topic.  They will have an opportunity during our next library time to complete this research and share their findings with the class.  A BIG thanks to our librarian, Mrs. Denham for coordinating this for us!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Here are the research questions the students answered.

#weekendjournals

If you are on any type of social media (facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.), you are probably all too familiar with hashtags.  For those of you who don't know what a hashtag is, a hashtag is a number sign followed by a word or unspaced phrase.  When students complete their weekend journal homework (which is having you or the person they wrote to write a letter back to them in their journal) they get to place two hashtags on that page.  The students LOVED learning about it and getting to apply their knowledge of it today as they wrote in their weekend journals to you.  Be sure to write them back each week so they can join in the fun of hashtagging!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk
