Last Day of Research

Today was our last day of research in the library.  We focused on sea otters today.  Students were able to research online and read Pup Supper by Victoria Mills.  They then worked as a group to answer some questions about their online research.  Their packet of research from most of the week is coming home today.  Please be sure to check out all of their hard work!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

I was so impressed with all of their hard work this week!

Conserving our Ocean

Today we were able to go to the library and continue our learning about the ocean.  Today students learned about the importance of ocean conservation.  The conversations happening after they watched the short video truly impressed me SO much.  We had students really thinking about things they could do to help keep our ocean clean and sharing their ideas with their friends.  I have attached the video that we watched today. I believe it really made an impact on all the kids and wanted to share it with you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

I love getting to sit in and discuss with the students what they have learned!  My favorite part of today!

More Research . . .

Yesterday and today we continued our research on ocean animals.  Yesterday, we each took a closer look at dolphins and answered some tough questions about what we had learned.  Today, we went to the iPad lab and learned more about bio-luminous fish and answered some questions about them as well.  Both days students were able to use QR codes to access the videos on their iPads.  I have attached one of the videos we watched and some pictures from the research time.  The students are really enjoying learning about the ocean.  Be sure to ask them about all they have learned at home.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Let the Research Begin!

Today we started our Ocean's unit in science.  It is always a favorite unit of study for the students.  We will continue this study until spring break.  This week we will be researching ocean animals.  We have teamed up with the librarian, Jessica Denham, to get this done.  Today each student chose an ocean animal that they were interested in researching and got the chance to dig into some books and learn more about them.  As the weeks go on, we will be able to create some neat projects from our research.  The students absolutely loved it and can't wait to continue this research tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk
