'Twas the Day Before Winter Break ...

Today has been quite a fun day in 4th grade.  We had such a great time at Celebrate Carroll this morning.  The choir did an amazing job singing for us.  Our class also was awarded Class of the Month for Art!  I am so proud of all of the kids for earning this big accomplishment.  I may have acted a little crazy going up to get the award because I was so pumped for the students.  We also had a great time at our holiday party.  A special thanks to all the parents that were able to come and help out.  It was a HUGE success.

I am so thankful to teach your precious children.  They are each such a precious gift!  Thanks for sharing and entrusting them to me daily.  It brings me so much joy to know, teach, and love them!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Spelling Bee

Today some of our students participated in the school-wide spelling bee.  They each qualified by scoring high enough on the written spelling test last week.  Each of these 4th graders did INCREDIBLE!  We are so proud of each of them.  I was able to snap a quick shot of each of the students that participated from our class.  The winner this year was also a 4th grader.  It is the 1st time in the school's history that a 4th grader has ever won the spelling bee.  Hannah Zhou we are so proud of you!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Way to go Hannah!  We are so proud of you!

December Fun

I can't believe we are already halfway through our time together in December.  Where has this month gone?!?!  The students are working SO hard in writing and reading.  I couldn't be more proud of all of their hard work.  There is a few fun things happening that you are already aware of, but I wanted to share them on the blog as well.
Dash has made his appearance in our class, and the students are loving it! Students love seeing where he ends up each day, and he has definitely helped keep our behavior great so far.
The teachers wanted to put something together for the students to let them know how much we love them and appreciate all of their hard work this year, hence the 12 Days 'Til Winter Break. The students should be coming home daily with a new surprise for the next day!
Also, if your child has not already watched the flipped video for Friday's lesson, I have added the link to the blog as well.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Dash keeps us entertained.

50th Day & Expository Writing

I can't believe we are already at the 50th day of school!  It seems like we just started a few days ago.  Time sure does fly when you are having fun (and learning lots)!  We had lots of great poodle skirts and slicked back hair today to help us celebrate! Enjoy the pictures below.

One of the biggest new learnings we have had over the last couple weeks has been expository writing. I am eager to start grading papers and see how much they have learned.  I think they are really enjoying this genre of writing.  Be sure to check out some of the posters below to see what we have been discussing in class about this genre of writing.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Yesterday was a complete success!  The students loved getting to complete the fun run.  Thank you to all the parents that were able to come and make this day even greater.  Below are some pictures and videos from our fun afternoon.  Hope you enjoy!

Also a BIG thanks for Mrs. Edwards for capturing and sharing the pictures below!  They are all really cute!

I tried to capture some video too.  They aren't the best, but it will give you some idea of the fun we had!

This was breaking through our banner (we went a little before we were suppose to, so I only got a few seconds of it).

This is right at the beginning of the run.  We started off with a walking lap first, but you can tell they are eager and ready to RUN!!

This video is side-ways!  I tried to edit the video, but my computer won't allow me too.  Just turn your head sideways or watch it on a device that will allow you to see it.  This is right when the color war started.  Boy, did they LOVE this!
