Be sure to check out the weekend journal - it is jammed packed full of good things this week!

First Grade Performance

Today our precious first graders performed a song at Friday Morning Live.   I was able to snap a quick picture of all of our kids before the performance.  I was also able to take a video of the performance.  For some reason, my phone stopped the recording half way through the song.  I still wanted to post what I was able to get though.  Sorry it didn't get the whole thing but I hope you enjoy what I was able to record.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Guidance

Every month we have the opportunity to have our counselor come in our class for a guidance lesson.  Today she came in and spoke with the kids about being whatever they would like to be when they grow.  She talked to them about college week and the importance of going to college and following our dreams. She also read a book to them about treating everyone fairly.  She talked about how we are all different and how we should treat everyone nice no matter what the difference is.  Mrs. Eastham is a great resource for our school and the kids just love getting to see her and to talk to her.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Special Guest

Today we had a special guest in our class.  Mrs. Longfellow came and read one of her favorite books to our class today.  She got to know each of the kids and something unique about each one of them.  The students loved getting to share about themselves with her.  Mrs. Longfellow loved it too. We are so lucky to have a principal that loves our students so much and strives to know each kid personally on our campus.  It was the perfect start to our third week in school!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Cutest Scientist EVER!

Today we finished up our unit on science tools.  All week long the kids have loved getting to learn about the different science tools and getting to see first hand how scientist use them.  Yesterday, we discussed goggles and how it is very important for scientist to protect their eyes.  They all got to try on some goggles and were quickly transformed into the cutest scientist ever.  Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Everything is Bigger in Texas!

in science all week, we have been learning about science tools and how to use them.  Today our little scientists got to explore and use eyedroppers/ pipettes and hand lenses. We learned that the eyedroppers/ pipettes were use to measure liquids and that the hand lenses were just to make objects look bigger.  They enjoyed using both tools but especially LOVED using the hand lens to make different things bigger.  Take a look at their magnified images.  I am sure you will crack up like I did!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk
