September Sheriffs

I just wanted to take a quick second and brag on our Sheriffs for this month. Instead of students being recognized with Cool Kids bucks this year, students will be recognized for exhibiting great character traits at Celebrate Carroll.  This year, two students will be selected from each class, recognized at Celebrate Carroll on Friday mornings, and receive a character certificate.  They will be the class sheriffs for the week.  This means they will take on extra responsibilities throughout the week for our class, and helping me out in any way that is needed. These are the kiddos that were our September Sheriffs!  I am BEYOND proud of them!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

PE Class of the Month

Last week our class was awarded PE class of the month!  I am so impressed with their hard work and great listening skills in PE. The silver tennis racket Mac is holding is our esteemed award! :-) Be sure to brag on your kid for achieving such a great honor!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Text Features

This week in reading, we having been diving into how text features really affect a story.  We not only want to recognize different text features but also be able to identify why the author strategically chose that text feature to get their message across.  In all of our learning, we were able to research a famous person and strategically come up with text features to display the information that we had learned.  The students had a blast completing their research and then creating their own display of text features.  Be sure to ask your child about it!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

College Week

This week, we are all having a blast dressing up and thinking about our futures.  The students have loved hearing about different colleges and careers and are starting to brainstorm where they would like to go to college.  Below is a picture of our fun on HAT day. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk

Constitution Day

This week is Constitution Week and today is actually Constitution Day.  On our quest to study about Texas History, we have to start at the beginning of America to see where we came from and how our country was established.  This week, we have been studying the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and tomorrow we will talk about the Bill of Rights.  Today the students got a chance to recite the Preamble to the Constitution. You will find the videos attached below.  They are pretty cute so be sure to check them out!

Special Visitors

Last week we had the chance to have a special reader in our class.  Mrs. Culpepper, our school's instructional coach, took some time out of her day and came and met our class.  She was able to get our read aloud started for us.  Tales of a 4th grade Nothing is my favorite book to read at the beginning of 4th grade.   Mrs. Culpepper is a great asset to our campus and the students loved having the chance to get to meet and interact with her.

Also this week our counselor, Mrs. Leven, came in to discuss College and Career week that is next week.  She also talked about the interview process, and students got the opportunity to interview each other.  Mrs. Leven is also a great resource for our students.

Be sure to ask your kiddo about it.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Monk
